Kim Kardashian is shown in a tense conversation with her then-husband Kanye West in the upcoming documentary In Whose Name?.

The footage captures a difficult moment following West’s 2018 trip to the White House, where he met with President Donald Trump. In the film, West — who later lost his billionaire status in 2022 and was dropped by his talent agency earlier this year due to antisemitic remarks — is heard speaking to Kardashian on the phone. The reality star, now 44, tells him how others around him perceive his actions.

“I can’t sleep. I’ve been crying all day. It feels like a nightmare that won’t stop,” Kardashian says during the call. She adds that West is alienating people close to him, particularly in his professional world, because of the way he expresses himself.

West pushes back, asking who she means by “everyone.” Kardashian replies that she’s referring to those in the music industry and people in his work environment.

“I don’t care about the music industry. I don’t care about the work field. I’m in a slave business. I’m a slave to Universal. Of course they’re losing,” West insists.

Kardashian counters, “Working hard doesn’t mean you’re a slave. That’s a disrespectful comparison. I work with brands that operate in the same way, and it’s nothing like that.”

At one point, West tells Kardashian that “E! is a slaveship for you.” She responds firmly: “That’s not my perspective. You’re insulting yourself and others. The network gave me opportunities I never would have had otherwise, and I’m grateful. I don’t believe in burning bridges with companies.”

Kardashian warns him, “One day you’re going to wake up and have nothing.” West snaps back, “No! Don’t ever say that. Don’t put that energy out there.”

The documentary also shows another confrontation between West and Kardashian’s mother, Kris Jenner, shortly after the phone call.

Neither Kardashian nor Jenner offered comments regarding the exchanges shown in the film.

Kardashian and West’s relationship began in 2012, leading to their 2014 marriage. They separated in 2021 and share four children: North (12), Saint (9), Chicago (7), and Psalm (6).

West’s political stance has also been a major focus over the years. He openly expressed support for Donald Trump in late 2016 and maintained that position through 2018, even calling Trump “my brother.” His pro-Trump speech on Saturday Night Live drew boos from the audience, though it was never broadcast. In October 2018, West met with Trump at the Oval Office. By July 2020, he launched his own presidential campaign but eventually conceded later that year.

Directed by Nico Ballesteros, In Whose Name compiles more than 3,000 hours of private footage recorded with West’s approval. The project provides an unfiltered look at the rapper’s mental state and personal struggles during those years
